BACKGROUND

This position is located in the Office of the Representative of High Commissioner for Human Rights in Liberia. Incumbents report administratively to the Deputy Chief who is their supervisor.

Under the guidance and supervision of his/her direct supervisor, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the United Nations(OHCHR) ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver provides driving services to authorized personnel.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Summary of Key Functions:

Provision of reliable and secure driving services:

  •  Provides reliable and secure driving services to authorized UN personnel within the city and to regions with possible over-nights trips in the region.
  •  Driving office vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel during security phases when required;
  •  Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and ensuring the delivery of client services related to field travel, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required

Proper use of office vehicle:

  •  Ensure proper use of office vehicle, regular maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  •  Proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc
  •  Availability of documents/ supplies
  •  Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
  •  Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Provision of a full range of logistical support for field mission

  •  Ensuring timely, accountable and cost-effective delivery of vehicle operations and personnel;
  •  Coordinating logistics operations with other UN agencies/funds/programmes and other organizations in the field as needed;
  •  Ensuring proper documents management and availability of all the required documents/supplies at any time and upon immediate request;
  •  Supporting procurement of goods and services within approved level of delegated authority

Assistance with general office and facilities management to ensure the full functioning of all equipment and services by:

  •  Provides minor repair service of the office equipment within delegated authority and upon request of the supervisor;
  •  Assist the supervisor in overall office facilities management by ensuring an adequate supply of non-consumable office stock in good working order including the provision of back up supplies and spare parts;
  •  Tracking office stock, such as stationery, furniture, fuel / consumables etc, and ensuring the purchase of necessary items; conducts periodical inventory according to organizational standards;
  •  Communicate with facilities/building management officials as well as with responsible common premises personnel to ensure OHCHR premises are fit for purpose. Provision of administrative and clerical services
  •  Assist in purchasing, expense accounting, travel authorizations, security clearances, reservations, etc.

Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;

  •  Provides support to official documentation formalities/arrangements etc;
  •  Support other administrative/clerical services as required.
  •  Assist in archiving official aged documents and stored in the archive room for safe keeping
  •  Maintains data base of daily vehicle fuel consumption to be able to observe the minimum recorder level.

  •  Ensure the office is accessible for fumigation in compliance with UNDP mandate.
  •  Safe driving services provided for OHCHR Liberia Staff members.
  •  Vehicles well maintained and made available for use at all times
  •  Fuel & vehicle daily log book properly handled.
  •  Communication ethics with UNDSS regarding travel out of mission straightly ahead to
  •  Safe and timely execution of the OHCHR office activities, including but not limited to smooth logistic and office management activities
  •  Services are provided within the limits of delegated authority, maintenance and repair of the OHCHR field office vehicle is achieved

RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  •  High School diploma or equivalent, Valid Driver's license

Experience:

  •  Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Driver, safe driving record;
  •  Experience in driving a variety of makes including van;
  •  Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

Language Requirements:

  •  English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  •  Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
