Fully Funded to Study Abroad: Ashinaga Africa Initiative Leadership Program 2022 (Liberians & Others)

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative began in 2014. Its mission is to contribute to sub-Saharan Africa’s expanding role in global development through increasing access to higher education abroad. We support orphaned students who are committed to returning home and initiating change, by providing access to full financial support to study at a university abroad (equivalent to an undergraduate degree). Ashinaga support covers tuition, accommodation, travel costs, and other necessary fees.





Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have lost one or both parents.
    Have completed secondary school and received the results of their national secondary school examination (technical and vocational degrees not accepted) within the last two years (any date after 2nd August 2019, including all of 2020 and 2021) or will have completed secondary school and received final exam results before February 28th, 2022.
    Be born after 1st September 1999.
    Not have the means to attend university abroad without external financial support.
    Be proficient in English, French or Portuguese.
    Be regularly ranked in the top 10% of their class during their last 2 or 3 years of secondary school.
    Be able to participate in the two Ashinaga preparatory programs, over the course of one year, before attending university.
    Be committed to return home, or to Sub-Saharan Africa, and contribute to society in Sub-Saharan Africa after graduating from university.
    Have no dependents who could interfere with academic progress.
    Have a good enough health condition to be able to study abroad.

During this assessment, Ashinaga conducts individual interviews and sets an examination to better understand students’ academic abilities and career goals in Sub-Saharan Africa. Students must bring all original academic documents and identification documents to the interview. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the application process.

Fully Funded to France: Camargo Foundation Core Fellowship Program 2022/2023 for Artists, Scholars and Thinkers (Liberians & Others)

The Core Program is the flagship program of the Camargo Foundation. Since 1971, the Camargo Foundation has awarded residencies to nearly 1,000 individuals as part of its mission to support groundbreaking research, experimentation, and interdisciplinary approaches in the Arts and Humanities.





Each year, an esteemed panel of scholars and arts professionals selects 18 individuals or teams from hundreds of submissions from around the world. Winners are awarded residencies in a stunning, contemplative environment where they have the space, time, and freedom to think, create, and connect. Fellowships span 6 to 11 weeks. With each cohort of Fellows, the Foundation strives to foster connections between research and creation.

Purpose of the Residency

  • Research, Experiment & Create: Applicants must submit a proposal of work they would like to accomplish during their residencies. Proposals may include specific projects to develop or complete (e.g. a book, film, composition, artwork, etc.) or research into a particular topic or issue, in advance of writing or creating a work of art. Research projects should be pertinent to the Fellow’s field. The Camargo Core Program welcomes both open-ended exploration, or more focused works.
  • Exchange & Network:
  • During the residency, discussions are held regularly so that Fellows have the opportunity to present their work to the group. These project discussions serve as an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange. All Fellows are required to be present at these discussions.
  • The Camargo Foundation’s staff will provide formal and informal links with the region, meetings with professionals whose areas of expertise are relevant to the Fellows’ work, and opportunities to attend events and to invite outside professionals to project discussions. On a voluntary basis, Fellows have the opportunity to present their work as part of the programming of cultural and educational organizations in the region.
  • As part of Camargo’s interest in engaging the local community, we encourage Fellows to also consider possible programs with students (for example, a classroom visit or workshop). Such events would be conceived and organized in close collaboration with the Foundation staff.




Practical Information

  • Residency Periods –
    The Camargo Core Program consists of fellowship residencies that span 6 to 11 weeks. The dates for 2022/2023 are:

    • Fall 2022: 8 weeks from September 8 to November 3
    • Spring 2023: 6 weeks from February 15 to March 29, 8 weeks from February 15 to April 12, or 11 weeks from February 15 to May 3
  • Stipend –
    A stipend of EUR 250 per week is provided, as is funding for basic transportation to and from Cassis for the Fellow for the residency. In the case of air travel, basic coach class booked in advance is covered.

Fully Funded to Washington, D.C : World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Program 2022 for Recent Graduates & Ph.D. Students

The Africa regions of the World Bank Group (WBG) announce the opening of the application for the 2022 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan Africa nationals.

The World Bank Group (WBG) Africa Fellowship Program targets young talented African nationals who are completing or have recently completed their Ph.D. in an area relevant to the World Bank’s work. The fellowship program has been very successful since its inception, building a strong pipeline of young African talent interested in a career in development, in international institutions, African governments, think tanks, and academia.





The program offers selected fellows a six-month assignment at WBG offices in Washington D.C. or in country offices to gain hands-on experience in WBG operations. This includes knowledge generation and dissemination, design of global and country policies, and the building of institutions to achieve inclusive growth in developing countries. While benefitting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also work on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and lending operations that contribute to the World Bank’s goal of eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity. Through the fellowship, we aim to build the capacity of the next generation of African change makers in development research, policymaking and promote the goals of reducing poverty in the region.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Be a recent Ph.D. graduate (within three years of completion) or be enrolled in the last year of the Ph.D. program
  • Have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal
  • Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Be under the age of 32 by the closing of the application period, August 23, 2021





SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process consists of two phases:

Phase I: A short-list of candidates will be made available for hire for the different units of the WBG depending on the applicants’ specialization. Applicants will be notified about the status of their application or whether they have been shortlisted or not.

Phase II: The final list of fellows will be selected in consultation with the various units of the WBG. When the selection is complete, all shortlisted candidates will be informed of their selection status. Selected candidates will then be notified and, upon acceptance, be hired as short-term consultants for six months starting January 2022.





Fellows are eligible to receive consultant fees and round-trip economy class air travel to Washington, D.C. or a WBG country office from their university or institution.
